WINDSOR RIM
Acetate character wrapped around a metal eyewire.
Windsor rim construction combines a slim metal frame with an acetate strip. Acetate is skived to approximately 1.8 mm, formed into continuous strips, cut to the eyewire and bonded into place for a distinctive finished rim.

PROJECT INPUTS
Match the acetate strip to the metal frame.
- Approximately 1.8 mm skived acetate strips
- Acetate bonded to a metal eyewire
- Color and pattern combinations reviewed per design
- Metal structure with an acetate visual character
Skive acetate to a slim strip
Acetate material is planed down to approximately 1.8 mm thickness and formed into continuous strips. This creates a flexible decorative component that can follow the eyewire.
Cut to the eyewire size
Each strip is cut according to the selected metal eyewire dimensions and lens shape. The fit and joint details are reviewed against the frame construction.
Bond the strip to the metal
The acetate strip is carefully bonded to the metal eyewire with adhesive. The assembly is then checked for alignment, edge appearance and the intended color balance.
Develop distinctive combinations
Solid colors, tortoiseshell patterns and custom color combinations can be reviewed with the metal finish and frame shape as one design direction.
Connect the rim construction with the project scope
Compare this hybrid route with custom metal frames and confirm the preferred rim, bridge and component direction.
For collection development, organize the brief through the OEM and private label process.

BUYER QUESTIONS
Questions about Windsor rim construction.
Need an answer for a specific design?
Ask our team ↗
What is a Windsor rim?
A Windsor rim is a metal eyewire wrapped or lined with an acetate strip, combining a slim metal structure with the color and texture of acetate.
How thick is the acetate strip?
The acetate is skived to approximately 1.8 mm for this process. Final fit and construction are reviewed against the selected eyewire and design.
Can the acetate color be customized?
Color and pattern directions can be discussed, including solid colors and tortoiseshell effects. The practical combination is confirmed for the metal finish and frame shape.
What should I send for a Windsor rim inquiry?
Send a frame reference or drawing, metal finish, acetate color or pattern, dimensions, quantity and any branding or packaging requirements.
