TR90 FILM-INSERT MOLDING

Acetate-like color on a flexible TR90 base.

A decorative film is created first, then molded together with TR90 to form a patterned sheet. The frame front is CNC-cut from that sheet, combining layered color with a lightweight, resilient material route.

PROJECT INPUTS

Build color into the TR90 sheet before CNC cutting.

  • Acetate-look layered colors and patterns
  • Film insert molded with TR90 material
  • CNC-cut frame front from the patterned sheet
  • Small-batch development route reviewed per project

Create the decorative film

The surface pattern is developed as a film first. This makes it possible to explore acetate-like tortoiseshell, woven or other layered visual directions before the frame is cut.

Mold the film with TR90

The film is placed in the mold and injection-molded together with TR90 raw material to form a patterned TR90 sheet. The final construction and material combination are reviewed for the selected design.

CNC-cut the frame

The finished sheet is machined in a process similar to acetate frame production. CNC cutting defines the front shape, lens openings and edge profile before finishing and assembly.

Reduce early development risk

Compared with a dedicated injection-molded frame for every new style, this route can help buyers test a color and shape direction before committing to larger style quantities or a dedicated frame mold. Exact order conditions remain project-specific.

BUYER QUESTIONS

Questions about film-insert molded TR90.

Need an answer for a specific design?
Ask our team ↗

How is the acetate-like pattern made?

The desired surface pattern is prepared as a film, then inserted into the mold and injection-molded together with TR90 to create a patterned sheet.

Is this the same as a conventional injection-molded frame?

No. The frame is CNC-cut from a patterned TR90 sheet. It uses a film-insert molding route rather than relying on a separate color injection mold for every frame style.

Can this route remove all MOQ or mold costs?

No. Quantity, tooling, film development and production conditions depend on the design. The route is intended to reduce early development risk, not to promise a universal MOQ or price.

What should I send for a TR90 film-insert review?

Send the frame reference, preferred pattern or colors, dimensions, target quantity, market and any finish or branding requirements.
